Just in: Car bursts into flames on the N2 near Uvongo

The driver and two passengers managed to exit the vehicle before it caught alight.

The N2 freeway was closed earlier today to allow emergency personnel to extinguish a blaze after a vehicle caught alight.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac confirmed no-one was injured.

Upon hearing a vehicle was on fire on the freeway, members of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Fire Department and paramedics along with Wolf Security attended to the scene.

Darius Heenen of Wolf Security said the vehicle burst into flames on the N2, between Knoxgore bridge and Uvongo bridge, on the northbound lane.

He explained that they moved everyone quickly away from the vehicle as they were worried the vehicle would explode as there was about half a tank of petrol.

“The driver had noticed smoke in the vehicle and pulled over to inspect the bonnet when the whole car  was engulfed into smoke. The three people managed to evacuate the vehicle before it caught alight,” he said.
