Schools re-opening in February 2021

Learners will just have to wait a little longer to return to the classroom.

In normal circumstances schools would have been opened by now but due to a high increase of Covid-19 infections they will only open in February.

Senior management will be back on January 25, teachers return on February 10 and learners are expected to be back on February 15.

Spokesman for KZN Department of Education Muzi Mahlambi confirmed this.

The deputy minister for the Department of Education, Makgabo Reginah Mhaule addressed the media this morning and said that they had revised the schools’ calendar.

“Learners were meant to start on January 27 when we revised the calendar for the second time, but with the increase of the Covid stats we have decided to delay with two weeks,” says Mhaule.

Public and private schools who use the same calendar will both be delayed by two weeks.

The deputy minister also mentioned that they have lost a number of markers at the marking centres and some of the markers have withdrawn and have gone home.
