Beloved ‘Mewa’ is mourned by community

Known as a true gentleman, his kindness, gentle heart and patience will be missed by many.

The Goberdan family of Port Shepstone is mourning the loss of husband and father, Choonilal Goberdan (56), who died on January 10, having succumbed to Covid-19.

Lovingly known as ‘Mewa’, he was a well-respected man within the community.

He moved to Port Shepstone in 1987 and matriculated from Port Shepstone Secondary School in 1982.

After finishing school, he worked at Mickenly Plumbers and thereafter joined the Port Shepstone TLC in 1987.

In 2001 he transferred to the Ugu District Municipality as a superintendent.

He has touched the hearts of many, with his beautiful music and life lessons that he so willingly shared.

Known as a true gentleman, his kindness, gentle heart and patience will be missed by many.

Mewa played freelance tabla for anybody who needed it, he also played in a band in his early years.

The community loved his playing, as well as his willingness to help anyone in need, even if it was not in his job description.

A quote he would often share with his family which speaks true to his character is, “Whatever you do, make sure that you do it properly”.

He is survived by his wife Lena Goberdan and daughter Geshika Vorster.
