UPDATE: Ugu District records 384 Covid-19 deaths since start of pandemic

The confirmed number of cases in the district now stands at 15 303.

As of Monday, January 18, KwaZulu-Natal has 279 974 confirmed Covid-19 cases, according to the Department of Health.

Of these, 57 903 are active with 3 180 new cases confirmed today.

Some 6 409 people have died from the disease in the province.

KwaZulu-Natal ranks the fourth highest countrywide in terms of fatalities, contributing 17 percent (6 409) of the deaths.
 
Of the total deaths in the province,  2 percent (152) were home deaths.
 
The province recorded 91 Covid-19 related deaths on January 17.
 
Of the 91 newly recorded deaths, 41 percent (37) occurred within the previous 24 to 48 hours. The province had no home deaths and/or patients who died on arrival in hospital.
 

The recovery rate is 214 798.
