Retiring police captain ‘a man of integrity, dedication and courage’

Captain Goba said that he always had the welfare of the public in mind when working as a detective, making the 'Batho Pele' principle a priority.

Captain Thulani Bridgeman Goba from Margate has retired after 34 years with the South African Police Service .

He began his policing career in 1986 at Umlazi, finished up at Margate Saps but spent most of his career with Vispol.

Captain Goba said that he always had the welfare of the public in mind when working as a detective, making the ‘Batho Pele’ principle a priority.

“The police service has been a home away from home and a place where I was able to serve. As much as I am looking forward in spending time at home with my loved ones, but I will miss the good times with colleagues. Policing is not a one man show and through the constant support of my family, colleagues and management I managed,” he said.

“I am also thankful that God has been with me all these years. I was privileged to end my journey at Margate police station. I hope God will protect and give strength to all men and women in blue, especially in these difficult times,” he said.

Capt Goba’s list of training courses was comprehensive and this had enabled him to become expert in his field.

Margate station commander, Brigadier William Slabbert, described Capt Goba as a man of integrity, dedication, passion and courage.

“He is a man of strong character and some who displayed excellent leadership skills. He was also a loving person with a good sense of humour. We thank him for all he done, not only for Margate, but the district, province and beyond,” he said.
