The festive spirit of giving back has trickled into the new year.
In its ‘One Tin Because We All Can’ food drive, Shelly Centre received more than 400 food items, including non-perishables, donated by shoppers.
These were recently handed over to Genesis.
Beaudene Steyn, marketing manager at the Shelly Centre, said the food drive was the ideal way to help feed as many people as possible, working with Genesis and its numerous charities.
“We wanted to help as many as we could at one time. Giving back is at the heart of what the Shelly Centre tries to do. We have a corporate social investment element to everything we do, because if it wasn’t for the community we wouldn’t be where we are,” she said.
Shelley Downham, marketing manager at Genesis, was grateful.
“We have been blown away by the generosity of our local community which has stepped up and offered help in so many areas, during such challenging times. Donations are vital and help Genesis to continue running its numerous ministries effectively,” she said.
Among Genesis’ ministries are: El Roi Baby Home (for abandoned infants and toddlers) in Port Shepstone, Khula Community Centre (creche and feeding scheme), Wave of Hope youth surf academy, Genesis Care Centre (step-down hospice facility) and the Murchison Community Centre (SafePlace) and its daily feeding scheme.
