Farm worker airlifted to hospital after tractor accident

The man was airlifted to a hospital in Pietermaritzburg.

A farm worker near Southbroom was run over by a tractor trailer yesterday (Wednesday) at about 8.30am.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac said the man sustained severe facial fractures and a possible crushed larynx (voice box).

“The man was in critical condition and needed specialist care not available on the coast so we activated the Netcare 911 helicopter to assist while placing him on a ventilator and stabilising him,” he said.

Mr Preston said the man was then transported to the fields at Southcity Christian Schools, with the school having given permission to use the field to land the helicopter.

He was flown to Netcare St Anne’s Hospital. He is in a critical but stable condition.
