Hospice receives donation in memory of patient

After Nora Wolhurter, a patient at Khanya Hospice in Umkomaas, died recently, her family generously donated several items to hospice in her memory.
The donated items, including a specialised blow up mattress and several packs of adult diapers, were gladly accepted by Khanya Hospice’s nursing manager, Sister Sue van Rijsbergen, who explained that because hospice is not government funded, these expensive items would often be purchased with hospice’s limited funds.
“We are extremely thankful for the specialised mattress which is very useful in palliative nursing care and for a bedridden patient,” she said.
“The mattress gets connected to a motor and has a timer that lets air in and out and this motion helps with the prevention of bedsores.”
