Tourism ‘looking up’ for South Coast
The South Coast is a desirable holiday destination and has on offer a range of activities including the new KwaXolo Caves Adventure, Oribi Gorge, the Red Desert, Lake Eland Game Reserve, nature trails, beautiful beaches and abseiling (to name a few).
With the Easter break fast approaching, the tourism sector is quickly recovering after its sombre state in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
And hopefully, by the time you are reading this, the protest action will have stopped, with roads being safe to travel to welcome our tourists.

Bookings are currently sitting at 65 percent in the KwaZulu-Natal region and are expected to increase to an impressive 80 percent at the beginning of the Easter season.
This is according to Ravi Pillay, MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs who believes that these figures will mark a revival for the tourism sector.
The MEC visited the South Coast on Monday (22nd) ahead of the Easter season launch campaign, where he visited the San Lameer Hotel accompanied by Ugu South Coast Tourism (USCT) CEO Phelisa Mangcu.
The Covid-19 pandemic has taken a mental toll on many and the Easter season shows promise of a much needed break.
“For our own mental health, let’s take that break. But let us exercise a built-in consciousness and do so in a disciplined and responsible fashion” said the MEC.
He further stated that the vaccination programme is building up momentum and that by this time next year, we should be back to a very close type of normal.
The MEC assures all residents and visitors that stakeholders are pulling out all the stops to make sure that establishments are Covid-19 compliant to allow for a safe and fun holiday.

The South Coast offers an abundance of outdoor activities and adventures and the Easter break seems like the perfect opportunity to make up for lost time while trying something new.
“How can you resist a place like this? I am from the South Coast so I know all the joys and jewels of this area. I want to encourage everyone to come down and make it happen for themselves and for us” said the MEC.
Last weekend also saw television presenter and Idols judge, Unathi Nkayi visit the South Coast where she participated in a range of activities.
Irene and her grandchildren are from Kokstad and decided to spend Human Right’s Day at Margate Beachfront.
“The South Coast in KZN specifically built itself as the tourism hub of the continent and not just South Africa. This is something we have managed to enjoy even as the Idols family” said Unathi.

USCT CEO Phelisa Mangu stressed that visitor safety remains priority.
She further stated that tourism is looking to extend its reach to business and events tourism as well as film production as it will be a great boost to South Coast communities and the economy.
