Drugs, bribes and a bust
Also found in the suspect's possession were heroin capsules along with Mandrax tablets.
Public Order Policing (POP) members who were deployed to the South Coast by the provincial police office made several arrests for possession of drugs and a firearm linked to a housebreaking which had occurred 11 years ago.
“Yesterday at about midnight information led (POP) to Jesus location in Boboyi, where a 34 year old suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge of Port Shepstone SAPS.
Also found in the suspect’s possession were heroin capsules along with Mandrax tablets.
“Cash was also recovered at the scene. The firearm has been linked to a housebreaking case which occurred in December 2010,” Captain Mpinge added.
Earlier the same day, POP followed-up on information regarding a drug dealer operating at the Port Shepstone taxi rank.
The members pounced on a white Opel with an ND registration and after conducting a search, they found heroin capsules in the suspect’s possession.
The 30-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and detained at the Port Shepstone police station.
“The members were later approached by another man, aged 38, who offered them a sum of money to release the suspect, and he was promptly arrested for bribery,” said Captain Mpinge.
All three suspects are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on these charges soon.
The public is encouraged to provide the police with information regarding criminal activities in the CBD and in their communities.
