WATCH: Striped Dolphin dies off Wild Coast Sun beach

The relatively small, streamlined and colourful Striped Dolphin is found in warm temperate and tropical waters.

The Lower South Coast SPCA team was called to attend to a breaching of a Striped Dolphin at the Wild Coast Casino Beach yesterday (Wednesday) evening about 6pm.

Chairman Scott Kvalsvig of the LSC SPCA said that despite the great effort from their team, the dolphin must have collided with a solid object, snapping both top and bottom jaws. 

The team which did what it could to help the dolphin. 

Striped dolphins are recognisable by their striking markings, making them one of the most beautiful small cetaceans. 

According to the IWC | International Whaling Commission they are found in the Pacific, Indian and Atlantic Oceans and most adjacent seas.

They are one of the most commonly encountered dolphins in the Mediterranean Sea.

Sadly the dolphin did not survive the trauma.

They are not always approachable, but when they can be observed, they are appreciated for their impressive acrobatic behavior.
