Gang on the run after armed robbery

The men held them at a gun point and demanded cash and other items sold at the garage.

A group of men held-up employees at gunpoint at a garage in the Tongaasi area in Port Edward during the early hours of Monday (April 5).

Police spokesman Sergeant Sibu Ncane said Port Edward police received a complaint of business robbery which had occurred at about 1am.

“They held the employees at gunpoint and demanded cash and other items sold at the garage,” said Sgt Ncane.

He explained that the men took cigarettes, cash and removed the safe from the garage but failed to load it into the getaway vehicle.

Before fleeing, they fired shots at security officers and the police but no-one was injured.

Port Edward detectives started an intensive investigation which resulted in the recovery of a bakkie at Latshoda area in Port Edward, which had been reported as hijacked the day before at Port Edward.

Some items were found in the abandoned vehicle.

Port Edward police are investigating a case of business robbery.

No arrests have been made as yet.
