New club for car enthusiasts
The launch saw an amazing turn out of youngsters at the first meeting which resulted in 40 members signing up to join the club.
The South Coast welcomed its newest car club at the Merlewood Community Centre recently.
Hood Stance Crew was formed by a group of friends who aim to bring groups of young people, car lovers and enthusiasts from different races and cultures together.
The executive committee is comprised of Yusuf Asmal (president), Nhlakanipho Gineous Langazane (vice-president), Dillon Dicken (sergeant in arms), Luthando Novandla (sergeant in arms second in charge), Shaquille Smith (secretary general) and Thabane Mavundla (treasurer).
“We always wanted to break barriers between all the races, and end the segregation as well as the stigma some of us who come from the lower class community experience, as we are told that we are living a thug’s life because of our cars,” said Shaquille Smith.

Hood Stance Crew not only seeks to be a home for the local car lover, but also plans on improving their communities.
According to Mr Smith, they are planning to do charity drives for the needy.
Car shows are also in the pipeline for the club, where members can display their cars and compete in ‘show and shine’ competitions.
However, the charity work has begun, as T-Shirts branded with the club’s logo have gone on sale for R200, with proceeds to be donated to charity.
“We are now taking a stand to show people that we are educated and we want to work with our local leaders and businesses to make a better life for those less fortunate. We call on all business owners to sponsor us as we are doing good charity work for the community,” Mr Smith added.
