Lucky day for black mamba hiding in car engine
Simbongile joked that he was busy working on a car engine when he saw 'an usual part' – one he had never seen in any car he had worked on before.
The South Coast’s snake catcher, Sarel van der Merwe (55) strikes again – this time rescuing a big black mamba from a car engine in Boboyi.
Mechanic Simbongile Mathumbu couldn’t thank Sarel enough for coming to his rescue last Saturday, April 3.
“You are a lifesaver, Sarel. Thank you! We appreciate your help,” he said.
Simbongile joked that he was busy working on a car engine when he saw ‘an usual part’ – one he had never seen in any car he had worked on before.
“We tried our best to kill it as we do in our villages but fortunately it managed to hide,” he said.
They then called the Lower South Coast SPCA who gave them Sarel’s phone number.
For the snake catcher, it didn’t take long to get the serpent out of the engine and into a bag.
