Housing prioritised at draft budget roadshow
Mayor Khathi informed the locals of upcoming projects in the area to address some of the many challenges faced - especially with regards to housing.
Housing and road rehabilitation were among the projects discussed as Umdoni Municipality‘s Mayor, Councillor Sibongile Khathi visited the Ward 1 community at Dumayo community hall during the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and draft budget roadshows on Monday this week.
These interactions between municipalities and community members are crucial as they allow locals the opportunity to bring service delivery matters to municipality representatives’ attention.

Mayor Khathi informed the locals of upcoming projects in the area to address some of the many challenges faced – especially with regards to housing.
She explained that Ward 1 will benefit from the rural housing project which is expected to house 300 families with ‘safe and dignified’ houses.
Several roads in the area in desperate need of rehabilitation were identified and also budgeted for under the municipality’s Access Roads Rehabilitation Programme.
Mayor Khathi stated that she would liaise with the Departments of Transport and Health to expedite the rehabilitation and construction of the P77 road as per the departments’ promise, and to investigate on the promised and much awaited clinic.
The Ward 1 community was pleased with the outcome of the meeting and showed appreciation to the mayor for her interventions with the issues that directly impact them daily.
Locals in surrounding areas are encouraged to attend the budget roadshow meetings to potentially find solutions to the many issues being faced and better their communities.
The schedule was recently published in the media and can also be found on Umdoni Municipality’s Facebook page.
