12 000 reasons to give
The parcels were distributed throughout all wards in Gamalakhe, much to the praise and appreciation of the community members, including Ward 26 councillor, Musa Ngcobo.
Rhema South Coast Family Church recently teamed up with the Mahlasedi Foundation to bring relief to those in need in Gamalakhe and KwaNositha.
A whopping 12 000 food parcels were donated, door-to-door, in all wards of these two areas – R13-million worth of food parcels which included an itinerary of 22 items, ranging from non-perishable foods to soap, sanitisers and masks.
“It’s much needed relief, Covid-19 hit the country so hard that those that are most vulnerable were affected the most. Everyone was in lockdown and not thinking that some people during the lockdown couldn’t feed their children,” said Pastor Jan Pretorius of the Mahlasedi Foundation.

“The response from the community was very positive. We’ve been getting calls and messages from people showing their appreciation. I’ve never witnessed this kind of gesture,” said Musa.
Rhema pastor, Larry Elliott, said “as a local church we believe in impacting our community. But when we have the opportunity to partner with one of our 3C churches in Johannesburg, through the Mahlasedi Foundation, it took us to a whole new level, a real game changer”.
Mahlasedi is a national organistion which has handed out food parcels in every province and donated R140-million worth of food over the last year during the pandemic, to 131 000 households.
Pastor Pretorius thanked all sponsors, the Ugu security cluster, which included the Saps, community policing forums, private security companies, ward councillors and faith based organisations.
