Vote for best newcomer Ficz

Rapper Ficz (pronounced fix), is setting the province ablaze with his music and has recently been nominated in the national ‘City Awards’ in the Best Newcomer category.

The musician from Umtentweni, real name Mmiselo Fica, was recently shortlisted in ‘031’ (Durban) region, and currently occupies the fourth spot.

City Awards aims to celebrate and uplift the achievements of musicians with their respective cities.

Ficz was born in Margate, but moved to England as a baby with his mother.

“When we first moved there, we stayed in Sheffield, before moving to Derby, but I don’t really remember that because I was mad young and then we moved to Leicester where I spent most of my years.”

He returned to South Africa as a teenager and completed his matric at Hibberdene Academy in 2014.

“So I have spent a lot of time here, having also come back during holidays in between,” he said.

Ficz’s music speaks for itself, as according to the rapper, his nomination was done anonymously on his behalf, and not by him.

“Even to this day, no one has particularly come forth and openly said to me, “It was me” or anything like that. I literally received an email from them (City Awards),” he said.

“For me it was a surprise and whoever that ‘someone’ out there is, a major thanks goes out to them,” he said.

The South Coast community is encouraged to vote for Ficz, by sending an sms, ‘Ficz031’ to 35029, with each sms costing R3.

Official results will be announced on June 5, when the voting closes, and will be announced on the same day.

His music is currently available on all digital platforms, with the How To Drill EP his latest project, and State of Mind having been released last year.

Singles such as Stepping, Bad Mood and Savages are also available for streaming and download.
