Man dies in Hibberdene crash

Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide, with charges of reckless and negligent driving.

A man died, and several others were injured in a serious crash on the N2 near the Hibberdene southbound on-ramp, close to Umhlungwa Bridge on September 27.

Police and emergency services responded to the scene, where a Ford Ranger and a minibus taxi had collided.

Police confirmed that a case of culpable homicide, with charges of reckless and negligent driving, is being investigated by Saps Hibberdene.

Glen Preston of Med-Evac Ambulance Service said paramedics arrived to find the minibus severely damaged, with multiple occupants requiring assessment and treatment.

“One person sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead. Several patients sustained serious injuries, while others suffered minor injuries or were fortunate to escape without injury,” said Preston.
