Surveillance cameras to be installed in Margate
The Joint Operational Command Centre (JOCC) that was recently established at the Margate beachfront is supported by local business owners and ratepayers.
Surveillance cameras will be installed in strategic spots in Margate to catch bylaw offenders.
The project is a joint effort of the Margate Business Association (MBA), the Margate Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association (MRARA), Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) Law Enforcement, SAPS Margate and private security entities.
Illegal activities are increasing in the Margate CBD and beachfront areas, and the public is warned not to participate in such activities as they will be caught on camera.

The MBA’s Jo-Anne Wentzel also informs the public that the Margate CBD Crime Protection Forum (CPF) WhatsApp group cannot continue operating for free.
Members of the WhatsApp group receive immediate assistance from the security companies in the group, therefore monthly donations from each member will go a long way in keeping it operational.
“We encourage each member to make a contribution, even if it is R20 a month to the CPF account,” she added.

According to Jo-Anne, private security companies assists the CPF regularly, and funds raised are also used for a ‘hero’s project’ once a year where refreshments are handed to uniformed members on public holidays to thank them.
