Umdoni appoints new acting municipal manager

Before Mr Biyase, Mzubanzi Silinga served as Umdoni's acting municipal manager until his contract expired, hence the decision to appoint someone new.

Umdoni Municipality recently appointed Nkululeko Biyase as its new acting municipal manager with effect from July 1.

The council submitted a list of candidates to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta). Mr Biyase was recommended by Cogta to serve in this position on a month to month contract up to a period of three months.

Before Mr Biyase, Mzubanzi Silinga served as Umdoni’s acting municipal manager until his contract expired, hence the decision to appoint someone new.

“Mr Biyase steps into familiar territory as he has served in local government for more than 13 years,” explained Umdoni Municipality’s communications manager, Sphelele Cele.

“His wealth of experience will greatly assist in keeping the municipality’s service delivery ship afloat while due processes related to the appointment of a municipal manager are concluded.”

Mr Biyase has worked as an executive director of water services in the Harry Gwala District Municipality, as head of department for infrastructure, planning and development at Buhlebezwe Municipality and as deputy municipal manager of technical services at King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

The municipality formally welcomed Mr Biyase to the team last Thursday.
