Long weekend leaves two dead, others injured
On Sunday afternoon, Netcare 911 responded to a collision on the R620 in Ramsgate.
A string of accidents and incidents over the long weekend left a number of people either injured or dead.
On Heritage Day (Friday, September 24) a man was struck down by a light motor vehicle while running across the road on the R61 near Uvongo.
Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911 Media said the man was assessed by paramedics, however his injuries were too severe and he was declared dead on the scene.
On Saturday night, Herbst said paramedics responded to a shooting on Miami Road in Hibberdene at about 19:00.
“Reports indicate that a man, who according to locals, was not a resident in the area, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body,” he said.
The injured man was assessed on scene by an advanced life support paramedic and found to be in a critical condition.
He was transported to hospital for further care.
Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said Hibberdene Saps has opened an attempted murder case after a 28-year-old man sustained gunshots wounds at Marlin Drive in Hibberdene. He confirmed that the man is recovering in hospital.

Reports indicate that two cars were involved in a head-on collision.
When medics arrived on scene, they found that one person had sustained critical injuries and was resuscitated on scene before being rushed to hospital.
Three other occupants had sustained moderate injuries and were taken to hospital.
Craig Botha from KwaZulu-Natal Ambulance later confirmed that despite the best efforts from paramedics and hospital staff, the man died in hospital.
