Murder suspect found hiding in Umkomaas
The victim was in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on arrival.
Umbumbulu detectives recently arrested a 24-year-old murder suspect who went into hiding in Umkomaas after allegedly killing Zakithi Sisanda Gumede (28).
On the night of the murder, Gumede and the man were at the Mphusheni reserve in the Umbumbulu area when an argument ensued between the two.
“The suspect then drew his knife, stabbed the victim on the neck and fled the scene on foot,” said Colonel Thembeka Mbele, Saps provincial spokesman.
The victim was in a critical condition and was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on arrival.
Once the murder case was opened at Umbumbulu police station for investigation and police began searching for the suspect, he left the area and went into hiding.
Through much investigation, police were able to eventually locate the suspect in Dlangezwe, Umkomaas where he was arrested.
He was charged for murder and the murder weapon was seized by police.
The case is ongoing in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court.
