Siyabonga George Sitha Sikobi (39) will be entered into the national register for sex offenders for the rape of a 14-year-old teen in Lamont location, Margate in December 2014.
He will also spend time behind bars.
The case was finalised in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on October 5 this year.
Sikobi was found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Immediately after the rape took place, the girl reported the incident to her sister who contacted the police.
Police spokesman Sergeant Sbu Ncane said Sikobi had followed the girl to the store and dragged her to a secluded area where, at knife-point, he raped her twice.
He then fled the area after police began investigating the case. He was finally arrested on May 11, 2019.
Further investigations ensued and DNS analysis was done after which an intensive trial proceeded.
Sergeant Nkosentsha Ntini from the Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) successfully investigated the case.
