House robber gets hefty sentence

The home owner managed to overpower one of the men and shouted for neighbours to assist him while the two other men then fled.

House robber Sifiso Thulani (40) was recently convicted in the Port Shepstone Regional Court.

He was sentenced to four years imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to rob and a further 12 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.

He was declared unfit to possess a firearm.

A man (25) from Fairview Mission area in Umzumbe was awoken by a noise on the night of April 24, 2019. Three unknown men kicked open his door and proceeded to rob him of his property. During a struggle with one of the suspects, the complainant sustained a stab wound in the thigh.

The home owner managed to overpower one of the men and shouted for neighbours to assist him while the two other men then fled.

Police took the suspect (Thulani) into custody where he was charged for housebreaking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The investigating officer was Detective Warrant Officer Sipho Msweli of Southport Detective Service.
