Hazardous medical waste dumped in Ramsgate leaves community angry

Contact details of a local pharmacist company was discovered on many of the dumped items.

A large pile of medical waste was found recently dumped at a parking area in Ramsgate.
 
After being notified of the complaint, Quinn Meecham, operations coordinator of Ramsgate Crime Prevention Forum (CPF) together with the Saps sector manager proceeded to the site.

“On arrival we found medication and various items which is generally sold in a pharmacy just as the complainant described,” she said.
 
Meecham said they also discovered contact details of local pharmacies on numerous items.
 
While at the scene, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) environmental department arrived and took all the items which will be used as evidence for the investigation.

Meecham said the waste is being stored safely until a hazardous material team can collect it.
 
 
Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge confirmed that Saps Margate has opened an enquiry to investigate the medical waste that was found dumped.

 

No response had been received from RNM spokesman Simon April before publication.
