Young leaders test mental strength at Rotary quiz

Port Shepstone Rotary Club recently hosted a general knowledge quiz afternoon that was enjoyed by both participants and spectators alike.
Club President, Shamin Maharaj organised this innovative way to get young leaders together to end a busy school term in a fun, funky and friendly way.
Five Interact Clubs participated in the three-part quiz with two members per club, representing each of the Junior and Senior categories. Parents, educators and fellow colleagues supported these youngsters as they put both their finger-strength and their mental-strength to the test.

The quiz comprised of a wide variety of questions which were created and shared using a game-based learning platform called Kahoot! Participants were measured against the accuracy of their answers as well as the speed of clocking in their answers.
Ethan Naicker from Port Shepstone Secondary was the Junior category winner and Mishka Maharaj won the title for Port Shepstone High in the Senior category. Mishka teamed up with Abigail Milne (the school’s junior representative) and they walked away winners of the team-building category.
Interactors from Creston College, Marburg Secondary and Port Shepstone Girl Guides were among the other teams who joined.
The winners were each awarded a cash prize, while all participants received certificates and a stationery pack.
The Rotary Club of Port Shepstone is thankful to Lerisse Naidoo, a local Vedic Maths Coach and an online educator who assisted with the compilation of suitable questions and embraced the role of Quizmistress for the afternoon.
Lerisse kept the participants motivated and challenged throughout the competition. “We are also humbled by the support we received from the Interact Clubs, the educators and the parents,” said President Shamin.
“We are hopeful that this quiz will become an annual calendar event for our club as a part of one of the outreach programmes we do for youth development and mentorship in our community.”
Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club that brings together like-minded young people to develop their leadership skills while they discover the power of Service Above Self.
