WATCH: Bheki Cele visits South Coast, sets record straight with taxi owners

The minister met with various representatives to discuss the issues plaguing the industry and area.

Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, along with acting KZN MEC for Department for Transport, Jomo Sibiya, had a meeting with the taxi industry at the Ugu Sports and Leisure today.

Associations from Harry Gwala District and Ugu District were represented by their respective chairman.

Cele was here to hear and get clarity as to why there is so much taxi violence in this region.

In a closed session he interacted with the taxi association and the Department of Transport and took a decision to come back in two weeks to meet again.

Cele said he is ‘not threatened’ by the taxi owners as he knows that they ‘have hitmen that they pay to kill each other’.

He raised a lot of issues with the taxi bosses, making mention of the bucket system that they use to collect money.
