Praise for Hibberdene station commander

The Mtwalume community feels that good service from an Saps official should be applauded.

The community of Mtwalume and women and child abuse advocacy organisations applaud Hibberdene Saps station commander, Colonel Sthembiso Mazibuko for the great work he is doing.

The community said since he has taken over as station commander, there has been improvement in terms of arrests and follow-ups on complaints.

Women of Mtwalume chairperson, Nomuso Sibisi said in most cases the community is unhappy with their local police or station commanders, However, as the community of Mtwalume we commend Col Mazibuko so that other communities can see that good is being done at some stations.

“Since Col Mazibuko started, things have changed at the station. Before his appointment, the community had no access to the station commander, we only knew his contact details and had never met him in person.

“We all know that Mtwalume has been in the news for serial killings, rapes, and murders, and during the case of the sugarcane serial killer we saw that Col Mazibuko was a dedicated station commander. All cases of rape, murder, and child abuse were acted on swiftly, which was not the case previously.

Sibisi said he ensures that complainants are attended to, along with information on the progress of their cases.

“He is always available, attends community meetings in person and does not send someone to represent him as other senior officials do. He has excellent interpersonal skills, qualities a station commander should have,” explained Sibisi.

She also said Captain Kishore Giani from the Port Shepstone Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) has played a huge role in matters involving children in the area.

“That man knows his story. Even when you call him at odd hours, he ensures that your matter is attended to. He is willing to go the extra mile and he listens attentively. In one week, we have worked on three cases protecting children, and as the community, we would like to say, well done to both Mazibuko and Giani. We are happy to work with them,” Sibisi concluded.
