Dee Moonsamy is a Top Woman in Business
"Being chosen as a KZN Top Business Women 2023 shows the unique and innovative measures I have introduced in my business and the impact I’ve made within the local community."
Dee Moonsamy, owner of HydraTool Industrial Solutions, was recently chosen as a KZN Top Business Women 2023. It’s also a double celebration for her as she is the only one nominated from the South Coast.
“I am incredibly honoured and humbled. This recognition holds significant meaning for me as my personal accomplishment reflects the dedication and hard work of my team.”
“Being the only one nominated from the South Coast highlights the unique and innovative measures I have introduced in my business and the impact I’ve made within the local community.”

“I see this award as an opportunity to not only celebrate my achievements, but also as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with it. I’m committed to using this recognition as a platform to inspire entrepreneurs, particularly women, to continue contributing to the betterment of our local business landscape and community,” she added.
“It’s a reminder that success is not a destination but an ongoing journey of growth.”
Her journey in the industrial sector began in 1995 where she worked with her husband at Morgan’s Transport. They then took a bold step and opened HydraTool in 2009.
It was a male dominated industry and she had to quickly learn the ropes. As the business grew, suppliers approached her and gave her sole distributorship. Dee acquired the Donaldson Filtration Distributorship in 2013 and was awarded for top sales in KZN in 2014.
Today, she is the only woman in KZN who still has the Donaldson Filtration distributorship. She also received the Tswelopele Award for Best Innovation.
HydraTool specialises in industrial filtration, lubrication, pneumatic and power tools, workshop equipment, airline equipment, pumps and hydraulic components which supplies the mining, agricultural, construction, manufacturing and automotive sectors.
Throughout this journey, her key to success has been marked by years of dedication, learning, a keen sense of adaptability, willingness to innovate, embracing challenges and prioritising quality and customer satisfaction.
Dee says she is deeply grateful for the opportunities and support that have allowed her to reach where she is today.
While growing her business, Dee also has to find a balance between work and family. “When I’m with family, I’m fully present and engaged. When I’m at work, I give it my full focus. I delegate responsibilities in both my business and household. Balancing family and business is an ongoing process and it’s not always perfect, it requires constant evaluation and adjustment.”

The attributes she has picked up on her business journey have been shaped by determination, a strong work ethic and a deep passion for what she does.
Also, being resilient has helped her overcome challenges and, rather than seeing them as roadblocks, she has chosen to see them as opportunities. Success for her is not about material wealth, it’s about making a positive impact in her community in a purposeful way.
Dee has also passed on these attributes to her children. “I hope to provide a strong foundation for success in both their personal and professional lives, empowering them to face challenges with confidence and to make a positive impact in their community.”

Dee advises young women entrepreneurs to believe, trust in their abilities, and never doubt themselves.
“Be open to learning from every experience, whether it’s a success or a setback. Don’t hesitate to share your opinions and ideas, be authentic and stay true to yourself and your values. Remember that your journey is uniquely yours and each step you take contributes to your own growth.”
Dee believes in giving back and has been involved in various corporate social responsibility initiatives, among them the development of karate on the South Coast, plus feeding schemes.
In her leisure time she loves spending quality time with her family. She enjoys travelling, learning about different cultures and exploring different cuisines.
