Afritage to celebrate 100 years of ‘Lekker’ in Southbroom

One of the highlights of the South Coast Wine Festival is the Pinotage Masterclass presented by Riverbend with the assistance of the Pinotage Association.

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s South Coast Wine Festival to be presented at Riverbend Crocodile Farm, Southbroom on Friday, November 14.

Organiser and owner Howard Kelly was delighted that more than 30 prominent wine estates had confirmed their participation and that more than 150 quality wines would be presented on the night.

The theme for this year’s event will be ‘Afritage – Celebrating 100 years of Lekker’ in celebration of two iconic South African milestones, namely the 100th anniversaries of both Pinotage as a cultivar and Afrikaans as an official language.

“This will be a fun evening with entertainment, music and food themed accordingly and those attending are encouraged to dress up as there will be prizes. It will also be an ideal opportunity to purchase all your festive season wines and bubbly at cellar door prices,” said Howard.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the Pinotage Masterclass, presented by Riverbend with the assistance of the Pinotage Association and advice from prominent Pinotage experts.

“It will allow serious wine lovers the opportunity to taste some of South Africa’s Absa Top 10 Pinotages and emerging Pinotages, while tracking the birth and development of this proudly South African cultivar,” said Howard.

This formal sit-down tasting – 40 minutes in the conference room – will be presented in two sittings of 60 people each. Tickets will be R80 each on a first-pay basis.

Doors for the festival open at 17:30 and tasting tables close at 20:30.

“There’s no rush to leave as we will have a DJ playing your favourite tunes until late, plus a cash bar and dance floor opened for those keen to celebrate and let their hair down a little,” said Howard.

Tickets can be purchased from Riverbend Art Gallery between 09:00 and 16:00 daily. Or phone 039 3166204 or 083 2659583. Alternatively, email [email protected].

Note, you are welcome to purchase and pay by EFT, with collection of your tickets at the door on the night, thus saving you a trip to Southbroom.

Ticket price for the festival is R350 per person, which includes your own tasting glass and Afritage gift, a meal (numerous traditional Afrikaans delicacies throughout the night), a voucher for Mampoer/Witblitz tasting, complimentary coffee station, a cash bar and the chance to win lucky draws, and much more.

This will be a fun night. Tickets for the Pinotage Masterclass are R80 per person, which can be purchased (limited to the first 120 people) as per above.

This year’s theme celebrates two iconic South African milestones.
