Take on anything in a GWM P300
Powered by a 2.4L turbo diesel engine, it delivers 135kW and 480Nm of torque - a bakkie built to deliver.
It’s been some time since I had a proper bakkie to drive, and I mean a 4×4. My recent sponsored vehicle for a week was the GWM P300 series. This beautiful bakkie is powered by a new 2.4L turbo diesel engine pushing out 135kW and 480Nm of torque from a 9-speed automatic transmission.
It boasts peak off-road performance, along with the comfort and luxurious styling. Once behind the wheel, you feel safe and have an excellent view of your surroundings.
My first time in the P300, I immediately felt the impressive power in the spacious and comfortable cabin.

With its rugged construction and dedicated off-road systems, the P300 is ready for anything nature can throw at it. One aspect I should mention is the 360° camera with panoramic view. It gives a complete view of your surroundings, whether you’re parking, reversing, or navigating tight spaces, the camera helps you do it all with confidence.
Now it’s taken me some time to get used to these reverse cameras. If I don’t look at my side mirrors, I feel I’m not in-control, however, technology has come a long way. I wonder if those taking driving lessons have the option of looking at the camera or they still have to do second observations.
The P300 includes a range of technology, such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging and advanced safety systems. A notable feature is a unique tailgate step for easy load bed access.
The GWM P 300 was fun to drive. Here’s hoping I get the P500 next, which delivers 255kw and 648Nm of torque.
