The dealership was abuzz with action last Saturday as the new brand elevated awareness of the electric revolution.

The BYD dealership in Margate held their Mega Electric Day last Saturday and the Chinese EV maker made quite a buzz.

BYD stands for build your dream and the open day presented a number of innovative and futuristic designs.

The Shark 6 drew admiring glances with its hefty size and mind-blowing performance, with BYD proudly proclaiming it SA’s most powerful bakkie.

SUVs like the Sealion and local runners like the Dolphin Surf and the Atto provide fully electric options that make expensive petrol pit stops redundant.

Sales executives Melody Gcaba and Songezo Jwacu have a blast showing prospective customers what the new BYD electric and hybrid range can do.

Refreshments and snacks were on tap for patrons, and BYD even hooked the popcorn machine up to the Shark. Sales manager Lionel Brunette said the beefy power unit could electrify a house.

Many customers were able to take test drives to learn more about the technological progress of EVs.

LSC Motors marketing coordinator Anechia Werner explained that the day promoted awareness and understanding of the potential of BYD electric cars and hybrids.

“This is a nationwide event to create and promote brand awareness for BYD. We’re the only outlet in the area and so we want to show people what electric cars can do. We hope to educate and explain what BYD stands for,” she added.
