KZN police arrest thousands for various crimes

A total of 10 342 people were arrested in September.

KZN police made 10 342 arrests for various crimes last month, after intensified targeted operations as well as through Operation Shanela.

Statistics revealed that 3 105 people were arrested for contact crimes, 191 were nabbed in connection with murder, 135 for attempted murder and 246 for cases of rape.

Some 208 arrests were made in connection with robberies, house robberies, business robberies, carjacking as well as robbery with aggravating circumstances.

“The relentless efforts by police also resulted in the recovery of 286 firearms, including 21 rifles,” said Colonel Robert Netshiunda, provincial police spokesperson.

Some 4 761 rounds of ammunition was also confiscated.

“Rural safety was also prioritised and 24 people were arrested in connection with the theft of stock,” added Col Netshiunda.

“Police arrested 194 people who transgressed the Domestic Violence Act, 1 771 for drug-related crimes and 54 in connection with kidnapping.”
