Systematic investigative work and long hours in court by Ugu District detectives resulted in two murderers being sentenced in the Port Shepstone Regional Court.
Sergeant Grant Phehlukwayo of Saps Gamalakhe investigated a case of murder where Nhlanhla Robert Zondi (55) stabbed his neighbour, aged 26, to death at KwaXaba Ward in Gamalakhe on September 11, 2022.
Ugu Saps District Communications said it is alleged that the neighbour had intervened in a quarrel when Zondi stabbed him in the upper body.
Police arrested Zondi months later after tracing him, as he had fled Gamalakhe.
He was sentenced in the Port Shepstone Regional Court to 15 years’ imprisonment on Tuesday this week.
Zondi was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
