Man arrested after shooting himself with unlicensed gun
The firearm belonged to a dead relative.

A 40-year-old man was arrested in Amandawe after allegedly shooting himself on Dududu Road recently.
Scottburgh Saps responded to the scene and found paramedics treating the man for a gunshot wound.
It was then discovered that the firearm belonged to a dead relative.
After he was treated at a local hospital and discharged, he was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm, possession of unlicensed ammunition and discharging a firearm.
Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, appeals to the public to hand in firearms in deceased estates if they do not wish to re-licence them.
The Saps has a Designated Firearms Office at every police station and is ready to assist the public. They can be contacted on 039 6881008/1009.
Take note: If these firearms are not re-licenced, they are then illegal firearms, and those in possession of them can be arrested.
In addition, if these firearms are stolen in a housebreaking and later recovered or used in a crime, they can be traced, and legal implications and possible prosecution may result.
Saps have an ongoing campaign to remove illegal and unwanted firearms, as these firearms can be used to commit serious and violent crimes if they fall into the hands of criminals.
The public is also advised to report any illegal firearms to the nearest police station.
