Unlicensed firearm seized

The firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if it was used in the commission of any crimes.

The public is encouraged to continue reporting illegal firearms and criminal activities to police.

This comes after police at Saps Mehlomnyama received information about a man who was in possession of a firearm last Thursday.

Police proceeded to the identified address at Mpakemeni area in Oshabeni, where they conducted a search of the premises and found a Smith and Wesson handgun and ammunition.

A man (38) who was not in possession of a firearm licence was arrested and charged for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The gun will be sent for ballistic tests to determine if it was used in the commission of any crimes.

The man made his first appearance in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on February 21, and the case was postponed to a later date for further investigation.
