Jail for Umkomaas thief

The complainant was a family member of the thief.

Manqoba Buthelezi (42) has been sentenced to three years direct imprisonment for theft.

He was found guilty at the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court recently.

According to Umkomaas Saps communications officer Captain Ranjith Rampersad, Buthelezi is the son of the complainant.

On the evening of May 31 last year, Buthelezi stole a gas tank, gas stove, wall clock, hosepipe, plates and a table from a house in V-Section in Umkomaas.

Quick action led to his arrest by investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Anthony Naidoo, and Buthelezi appeared in court in Scottburgh.

At the time, he was released on R500 bail.

Umkomaas Saps’ station commander, Colonel Mbongeni Mngadi, praised Naidoo for going the extra mile.

“His commitment to justice inspires hope for a safe Umkomaas,” said Mngadi.

Rampersad reminds the community to report all crimes on 039 9733103 or 039 9736107 or 039 9736108 or 082 3349766.
