Man in court for stock theft

The thefts occurred in Dududu, Sawoti and Msinsini over the last few months.

A 35-year-old man from J Section, Umlazi, was recently arrested after being found in possession of a stolen firearm and has since been linked through intensive investigations to a number of stock theft cases.

He was arrested on May 6 after being traced and intercepted on the N2 near Sezela by Kokstad Stocktheft Unit, K9 Port Shepstone, K9 Umzinto, TRT Port Shepstone and a Scottburgh Task Team.

Police arrested him after they recovered a silver 9mm pistol, which was stolen in a house robbery at Cator Manor in July last year.Preliminary investigations also established that the Ford Ranger he was driving, was stolen in Empangeni in April this year.

Police impounded the vehicle for further investigation by the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit in Port Shepstone.

A case of possession of suspected stolen property and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened at Scottburgh Saps.

The man will also be appearing in various courts for cases of stock theft which occurred in Dududu, Sawoti and Msinsini over the last few months.He will remain in custody.
