Tip-off leads cops to two shotguns

The community is once again commended for reporting illegal firearms to the police.

Police found a man (30) in possession of a shotgun and six live rounds of ammunition.

St Faiths police with the assistance of the Port Shepstone Tactical Response Team responded to information received on May 16 of a man in possession of an illegal firearm.

Police proceeded to the identified address at Gumbatane area where they found the shotgun and ammunition.

About three days later, members of Saps Mehlomnyama were conducting patrols at about midnight in Dweshula when they received information regarding an illegal firearm.

Saps Ugu District Communication said a man (29) was woken from sleep and a search was conducted which resulted in the recovery of a shotgun and eight live rounds of ammunition.

Both suspects have been charged with possession of of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court shortly.

The community is once again commended for reporting illegal firearms to the police as recoveries of illegal weapons are made regularly by police.

“Removing firearms off the streets greatly impacts serious and violent crime and the public are encouraged to continue to report all criminal activity.”
