Woman in court for fraud

The 62-year-old woman was granted R4 000 bail in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court.

Police are investigating a case of fraud after a local funeral parlour was defrauded of two separate amounts of R109 179 and R108 962 in 2022.

Ugu District Communication said a 62-year-old woman claimed to underwrite policies on behalf of the business.

Corna Lorna Smith was arrested in Amanzimtoti after a lengthy investigation on May 8.

She appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on May 9, where she was granted bail of R4 000.

The case was postponed to July 25.
