Man jailed for infrastructure damage
The accused was in possession of feeder cables worth approximately R100 000.
Police warn members of the public not to cause damage or tamper with essential infrastructure.
This comes after a recent conviction and sentencing in the Scottburgh Regional Court.
Jacob Mdluli (34) was sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment after being found guilty of such.
On July 19 last year, members of Scottburgh Saps were conducting patrols along the Kelso railway line when they found Mdluli in possession of feeder cables worth approximately R100 000.
He was arrested and remained in custody throughout his trial.
Police said that causing damage to essential infrastructure poses a great risk to public safety, electricity supply, transportation and communications; therefore this harsh sentence serves as a deterrent to perpetrators.
The investigating officer in the case was Detective Sergeant Rodney Shozi of Scottburgh Detective Service.
