Port Shepstone detective puts rapists behind bars

Detective Sergeant Sindisiwe Mkize recently secured good convictions in the Scottburgh Regional Court.

* A child (6) was walking home in Malangeni, Umzinto on March 24, 2024 when Sthembiso Chiliza (35) pushed her into nearby bushes and raped her. He was convicted on May 28, and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment.
* A woman (20) who is mentally challenged fell pregnant after she was raped by someone known to her. A case was opened for investigation at Saps Sawoti in March, 2019, and Xolani Mjwara (34) was arrested. He was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment on May 26.
Both were declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Both the FCS Port Shepstone and FCS Margate are resolute in fulfilling their mandate to promote and protect the rights of women, children and vulnerable groups, through intensive investigations and harsh prison sentences, and to treat all victims with respect and dignity.
