Rape victims live in fear of attacker in Nyandezulu near Shelly Beach

At one point, the woman was moved to a shelter and both her daughters were taken to a home.

Two young rape victims and their mother are living in fear of reprisals from the alleged rapist.

The girls, aged 10 and four, were attacked by the man who was a family friend and their neighbour.

At the time of the incident, the family was living in Bhuqu area in Nyandezulu (Nyandezulu is a rural village only 9km inland from Shelly Beach) but had to move because their lives were in danger.

According to the mother, her daughters were raped in May 2024, and after she reported the incident the man was arrested, but later released on bail.

Ugu District Saps Communications confirmed that the accused, aged 27, was granted bail.

His next court appearance is on October 8.

The mother added that after his release, he tried to attack her at her home.

For her safety, the woman was moved to a shelter and both her daughters were taken to a home.

However, her daughters were returned to her care, but now the desperate mother is seeking help for them because they are not coping.

“A social worker was working on our case, but my daughters have not received any counselling or therapy,” she said.
