Violence linked to anger and alcohol under police spotlight in Ugu District

Police report that more than 200 people have recently been arrested for assault throughout the Ugu District.

Police across the Ugu District are investigating and making arrests in a growing number of assault cases, many linked to anger, personal disputes, and alcohol abuse.

In Harding, four men were arrested after allegedly attacking a 24-year-old man with sticks and a sjambok at Mazekhele Phase 1 on June 6.

The group accused him of stealing cash. Police acted swiftly, and the men are expected to appear in the Harding Magistrate’s Court.

In another case, a man (30) was arrested in Hibberdene after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend at Nyangwini near Esibanini on June 7.

It is claimed he attacked her with a wooden plank, causing injuries to her face and body. He will appear in the Turton Magistrate’s Court.

Saps Ugu District Communication confirmed that more than 200 people have recently been arrested for assault across the district.

“Police take all cases of assault seriously, whether minor or major – especially those related to domestic violence.”

Authorities have urged the public to walk away from potential confrontations and to seek peaceful solutions.

Community members are encouraged to report all acts of violence promptly to ensure swift police action.
