Justice served as Hibberdene murderer sentenced to 10 years

Police urge the public not to take the law into their own hands.

Ugu District detectives are working tirelessly to bring justice to families whose loved ones were murdered.

One such case reached finality recently, when Detective Sergeant Fikile Ngubane of the Hibberdene Detective Service successfully secured a conviction.

Nkosinathi Petros Mthethwa (36) was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on June 11. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Mthethwa was found guilty of the murder of a 20-year-old man who was accused of stealing cash. The young man was severely assaulted in the Nomakhanzana area in Hibberdene on November 8, 2022, and later died from his injuries.

Mthethwa remained in police custody throughout his arrest and trial.

Police have commended Ngubane for her dedication in finalising the case and ensuring that justice was served.

Authorities continue to urge community members to report crime to the nearest police station and not to take the law into their own hands.
