Security team foils cable theft in Marburg

Swift action stops copper cable theft leading to major outages being avoided.

A potentially devastating cable theft incident was stopped in its tracks in Marburg last week, thanks to the swift response of the Lazer 911 tactical team.

Their response not only protected vital infrastructure, but also prevented potential electricity disruption for thousands of motorists and residents.

Acting on crucial information about suspicious activity, Lazer 911 reaction officers Rajesh Baburam, Winston Lemon, and Marnus Marais were dispatched to an area along the toll road, where suspects were reportedly digging to steal copper cables.

“Working alongside Lazer 911 guards already stationed on site, the officers moved quickly to stop the thieves before they could cause any damage that might have led to major power outages along the toll road and surrounding areas,” said Basil Lanka of Lazer 911.

He said the thieves were arrested on scene and handed over to Saps for further investigation.

Lanka thanked the team – Innocent Cele, Clifford Shange, Wonder Nkomo, Baburam, Marais and Lemon – for their decisive action.
