A security company has noticed a spike in housebreakings and attempted housebreakings in the Park Rynie area over the past two weeks.
There was a house robbery on First Street on Tuesday; on Saturday a case of housebreaking and theft on Second Street and on Sunday housebreaking and theft on Saville Road.
There was a housebreaking and theft on David Road in Scottburgh south on Sunday, as well.
The security company, Gladiator Security Services, said it had noticed an overall decline in criminal activity in Scottburgh central and Scottburgh south.
It is believed that patrollers from the Scottburgh Neighbourhood Association and Patrollers (SNAP) played a role in the decline.
SNAP is dedicated to combating crime with the support of patrollers who act as the eyes and ears for Saps and security companies.
The patrollers are stationed in Scottburgh central and Scottburgh south, and SNAP also contributes by clearing overgrown vegetation and bushes, ensuring that all relevant authorities can easily monitor and detect any potential illegal developments.
The group aims to take back the streets of Scottburgh by being its eyes, voice and change.
Residents are encouraged to join the group. If interested, contact 082 7740128.
The Park Rynie Crime Watch (PRCW) Association has also taken note of the recent crime surge in Park Rynie.
PRCW has responded with a search of the coastal beaches and associated facilities to establish if they harbour criminal elements, or provide storage spaces for stolen goods.
The search recently took place with help from Gladiator Security and members of SNAP. It covered the area between Caravan Cove in the south and the camp site in the north.
All bushes, ablutions and buildings in the search area were reported free of inhabitants.
A group of nine vagrants was found inhabiting a space on the eastern side of the Park Rynie train station.
They were checked for possible involvement in criminal activity and no such links were found. They were requested to leave and will be monitored going forward.
The current operational status for the PRCW association includes 18 established patrol teams, with nine currently in operation. The other nine that are not operational for work related reasons remain on standby for emergency situations.
The association stated that it cannot achieve the level of security needed in the town with limited support and calls on every capable resident in Park Rynie to join patrols.
If you are able to join, contact 082 4166475.
In an effort to combat crime, Gladiator reminds all residents to ensure that properties are secure at all times. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the local security provider or Saps.
