Be aware of fake Saps accounts

Police are contemplating taking legal action against impersonators.

Police have noticed several social media accounts, particularly on X, TikTok and Facebook, which are using the names and photographs of provincial commissioner of KZN, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

KZN police informs the public that Mkhwanazi does not have a social media account, and declares that all social media accounts bearing his names and photographs are fake.

Police are contemplating taking legal steps against those who impersonate the provincial commissioner to advance their personal agendas, however, the public is informed that those profiles are fake and that neither the police in KZN nor the provincial commissioner have endorsed such accounts.

Mkhwanazi pleads with the public to refrain from using his photographs during various politically-aligned marches, especially those against the State president.

“The provincial commissioner appreciates the support that people have shown towards the work of the police in KZN, but the use of his photographs and names on posters and banners during marches has the potential to send unintended messages to government, government officials and the international community,” explained Saps spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

“The provincial commissioner is against crime and criminals, not leaders in government.”
