Men urged to protect women and children
Inkosi Mjokwana Mqadi said men should remember their role in society.

Men are protectors and providers; they should never forget that.
This was a sentiment shared by Inkosi Mjokwana Mqadi of the Zembeni Traditional Council when Umdoni Municipality hosted an imbizo focused on encouraging men to participate in building safe, respectful and ethical communities.
The imbizo was held recently in collaboration with Operation Sukuma Sakhe in Vulamehlo under Ward 19.
Mqadi said it was important that men remember that they are protectors of children and women.
“Men, we are born protectors. We should not forget that. It is our daily duty to ensure that children and women always feel safe,” he said.
Umdoni mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli, expressed concern over the increasing crime and drug use in the community.
Cele-Luthuli stressed the importance of ordaining young boys to men and young girls remaining pure.
The mayor said educating both young girls and boys about life in general builds a solid foundation for them to be better individuals, partners and human beings.
Meanwhile, July is associated with Men’s Month in South Africa, which focuses on broader issues concerning men, including gender-based violence and men’s health.
The imbizo held in Umdoni was also supported by the Department of Social Development, the Saps, the Community Liaison Unit, the Department of Agriculture, Government Communication and Information System and SASSA.
“The presence of these various departments demonstrated their commitment to working together to build better, healthier and safer communities,” said Cele-Luthuli.
