Man nabbed with drug stash in Margate
'Drug dealers have no place in our society,' says Major General Sethenya Nxamagele.
A successful police operation has led to the arrest of a 37-year-old man and the recovery of a large quantity of drugs in the Matsheketsheni area of Margate.
Members of Saps Margate Crime Prevention were on patrol when they received a tip-off about suspected drug dealing in the area. The team held observation and, after noticing suspicious activity, searched the premises.
During the search, police recovered at least 150 heroin capsules, Boss mandrax tablets, ziplock bags of crystal meth, and packets containing powder cocaine.
The suspect was arrested on the scene and is expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, welcomed the arrest and praised both the officers involved and the public for their cooperation.
“We commend the community for blowing the whistle on crime,” she said. “Drug dealers have no place in our society. We urge residents to continue reporting those who prey on young men and women, robbing them of a successful future.”
